Dr. Thomas Seyfried explains that unlike healthy cells which utilize sugar or fat in the presence of oxygen to produce energy, cancer cells rely on glucose fermentation — an inefficient means of producing energy. He explains that by targeting this metabolic vulnerability, by restricting glucose, one can starve cancer cells of their energy source — glucose.
